ACE students meet every other week with mentor architects, contractors, and engineers. They work in teams to design projects and build models of various facilities. This past year students developed a three dimensional model, a computer model, and blueprints for the renovation of the old Sage Allen building in Hartford.

    Robotics Team

The FIRST Robotics Competition challenges teams of students to design assemble and rehearse a robot that "plays" a game that is presented in January of each year. In a six week build phase, the robot is created following a common set of rules provided by FIRST. Teams enter their robot in a series of regional competitions, hopefully qualifying for the National game at the Georgia Dome. Each competition is an exciting experience that teams up mentors and young adults and test weeks of brainstorming, dedicated mentoring, and real-world teamwork in a high-tech sporting event. The competitions typically involve more than 20,000 students from over 900 multinational teams.

The program is life changing, career molding and a lot of fun. Colleges, universities, corporations, businesses, and individuals provide scholarships to participants. The competition demonstrates that the technological fields hold many opportunities for fulfillment and that the basic concepts of science, math, engineering, and innovation are exciting and universal.

    Entrepreneurship Club

The Entrepreneurship Seminar Club is an interactive, experience-based, after school program designed for juniors and seniors. Special focus is placed on key practices that must be mastered to be a successful entrepreneur, such as leadership, freedom, power, and playing by the rules.

    The Connecticut Pre-Engineering Program (C-PEP)

The Connecticut Pre-Engineering Program (CPEP) is an after-school program in which students use math, science and engineering skills to design and build models of real-life technology applications for competition. Students will compete at the state level in May at the University of New Haven in categories such as, Bridge Building, Roller Coaster Competition, Solar Sprint Model Race Car, Battery Powered Boat Race and Magnetic Levitation Vehicle. Students are also provided with opportunities to attend college and career awareness events, hear guest speakers from the field of engineering and attend site visits to engineering and research facilities. Meetings are held once a week in Ms Flaherty’s room. Snacks are provided.

    Pathways to Innovation

This program develops student innovation and research skills through seminars and mentoring activities. Students attend seminars and workshops delivered by participating college faculty and innovation professionals at Connecticut colleges and corporate facilities. The focus is on emerging trends and current research being carried out at these Connecticut institutions, while introducing students to 21st Century Connecticut career opportunities.

    Pathways Ambassadors

The Pathways Ambassadors is a group of 30 students who have been chosen as leaders, mentors and mediators for Pathways. Some of their activities will be to welcome new students to Pathways, make them feel connected and help them acclimate to our community. They will discuss academic/behavioral expectations with the new students, introduce conflict resolution and peer mediation and lead team building activities. After the initial welcoming activities, the Ambassadors will be assigned to approximately four freshman/new students and serve as their mentor throughout the year. The Ambassadors will also be trained as peer mediators and be available to conduct these mediations during the year. Ambassadors have the opportunity to plan activities that will contribute to a positive and connected community at Pathways. One such way of fostering connectivity will be their leadership role in weekly Advisory Group meetings, where Ambassadors will assist individual Advisors in delivering personal and professional development opportunities to their group of students.

    Pathways Cyber Read Society

There is nothing like a good book to stir meaningful discussions. The goal of the book club is to combine best-selling novels with an online forum to allow for intellectual discourse amongst students, Pathways staff, parents, business leaders, community members and anyone with a passion for reading.

    Martial Arts Club

This is a Chinese Martial Art. This will help students in strengthening, conditioning, and toning the body…as well as the mind and the spirit. The true focus is discipline – physical, mental, and spiritual.

    National Honor Society

The National Honor Society, or NHS, is a nationwide organization in the United States and consists of many chapters in high schools (grades 9-12). Selection is based on four criteria: service, leadership, scholarship and character. The NHS requires some sort of service to the community, school, or other organizations. The projects help students meet the required service hour total monthly. The National Honor Society was founded in 1921 by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. .

    Student Government

This group is the “voice of the students”. Each class will choose a class representative to meet monthly with the principal to discuss issues important to the students. Student Council is a representative structure for students only, through which they can become involved in the affairs of the school, working in partnership with school management, staff and parents for the benefit of the school and its students.

    Pathways Fitness/Nutritional Club

Pathways Fitness Club provides students with workouts in the following areas: Strength, Cardio, and Flexibility. The club will also focus on nutrition and healthy eating.

    Pathways Drill Team

The Purpose of the drill team is to help develop leadership skills as well as learning to work together as a team and to help discipline one’s self and boost their self esteem. My goal as Drill Facilitator is to try to help the students be self-sufficient and to be more comfortable asking each other for help. I want the team to be able to take direction from each other. In the even of my absence, be able to hold a productive practice without any issues under the supervision of another adult. Communication is an important part of our lives from beginning to end and is a key factor in all that we do.

    Video Game Development Club

In this club, students with various interests come together to develop a video game. Students can contribute as artists, writers, sound technicians, or programmers. The type of game and platform that it will run on is entirely up to the students to decide. Planning begins in the fall and the goal is to have a polished, fully functioning video game by the end of the school year.
